Training week #03
Getting out the door

He who is outside his door has the hardest part of his journey behind him.
Dutch proverb

Our first few marathon training weeks have gone well. The aim was to get into a groove and start running regularly. It didn't matter if it was for 20 minutes or 2 hours, it was about getting out the door. Finding reasons not to go running is easy...too easy. Getting out the door is the hardest part. But the first 10 minutes or so can still be pretty tough too...you think about yesterday or your day at work, your legs are tired and your breathing is heavy, you wonder why you ever thought running was a good idea! Your head is cluttered with a million different thoughts racing at a million miles an hour....

...and then there's a moment, it's kind of like somewhere between taking off and landing...a moment of tranquillity.

You feel the air, notice your surroundings, see the changes in light and realise that you're not thinking about the food shop or what you've got to do tomorrow...because you're in the moment of right now...and right now you're a runner!

Training week #01
Getting into a groove

Our training for Marathon du Mont Blanc, on 1 July 2012, started today! Oh yeah...bring it on.

It was a gentle stretch out of the legs, but it felt good to get out there and run, especially early morning when the air is so sweet and fresh.

This week is about getting into a groove. We're looking at 3 solid sessions involving speed work and endurance training to start to build up the distance....but keeping up the cross training too. We'll let you know how we get on!

Let us know what you're training for. Be great to share our highs and lows and tips along the way. It's a great motivator!
